Easy Cleaning Tips Everyone Should Know
Everyone loves to have a clean home, but doing the cleaning is no fun. We’ve all let the house go a little too long without a proper wash. But finding the motivation and time to actually do it is not easy! Whether you’re lazy or just busy, I think we’d all like to cut down on cleaning time. A couple simple hacks will cut down your cleaning time so you can spend your time doing more fun things. Check out these helpful hacks to clean your home quickly and efficiently.
Use shower gel to clean showerbuildup
It’s ironic that the thing we use to clean ourselves actually becomes one of the dirtiest places in the home. Yuck! The soaps and shampoos we use to clean ourselves shed oils and buildup that ends up on the floors and walls of our showers.
A great home hack is to use shower gel instead of soap to clean this buildup. Shower gels have a consistency similar to detergent and have less fats and oils than soap. Take a sponge into the shower with you and scrub the walls with some shower gel next time you shower.
Use nail polish remover to clean bath grime
Another effective way to wipe away shower or bath grime is to use nail polish remover. No need to spend on expensive cleaning products to clean your bath. Nail polish remover is great for removing stains in the tub.
While this is a perfectly effective solution to stains from buildup, make sure to crack a window and run the water when you’re done to wash away the strong smell.
Use a lint roller to dust
Dusty surfaces are the enemy of any home. Most dusting techniques don’t actually eliminate the dust, but just move it around. Try using a lint roller to dust instead! You probably already have one of these laying around the house.
The lint roller will collect the dust rather than just moving it around. If it can take the lint off your jacket, it can take the dust off your tables. It’s quick and doesn’t require a dustpan, rag, or broom to do the work. Enjoy dust-free surfaces.
Dust your blinds with tongs
When’s the last time you dusted your blinds? You’re not alone if the answer is “Never”. The best cleaning hacks involve items that you probably already have in your home. If you have a pair of tongs in your kitchen, you have the perfect blind duster already.
Dusting the blinds is a beast of its own. This solution is sure to get your blinds spick and span in no time. Wrap a microfiber cloth around the ends of your tongs and secure with a rubber band. Slip the tongs between the blinds and dispose of that dust.
Use the dishwasher for more than just dishes
Your dishwasher can be used to clean more than just your dishes. Throw almost anything in to be washed. Toys, sponges, vases, glass and metal fixtures, hairbrushes, shelves, and even shoes can be washed in the machine.
This will save you the time it takes to hand wash each item individually. Who has the time? Not everything should be cleaned using the dishwasher; however, don’t go putting your wooden or fragile items in there.
Use stovetop liners
This has to be one of our best time-saving cleaning hacks. If you cook (and even if you don’t) spills and crumbs always seem to wind up in every crevice of the stovetop. It’s very difficult to get into the corners to clean.
Purchase some stoveliners to put on the stove and just replace them when they get dirty. This will save you tons of time scrubbing.
Use lemon to clean water stains
Water stains can be tough to remove. Fortunately, you don’t need to use chemical-filled cleaners to get rid of these stains. All you need is a lemon!
The acid in the lemons will reduce or eliminate rust and water stains. To prevent future stains, rub some wax paper over the fixture after you clean them. This will save you time in between cleans. And who doesn’t love that?
Line your fridge shelves with with plastic wrap
Another place in the home that always accumulates mess is the fridge. And it’s one of the places in the home that often gets forgotten. If you’ve ever spilled something in the fridge, you know how annoying it can be to clean.
Line your shelves with plastic wrap so you can easily dispose of a mess. This can save you tons of cleanup time you can spend doing literally anything else!
Use damp rubber gloves to pick up pet hair
Having pets is the joy of life! Cleaning up their fur; however, is definitely not. If you find yourself pulling out the vacuum almost daily, this hack is definitely for you.
Put on some rubber gloves and slightly wet them. Rub your hands over couches, chairs, blankets, beds, and anything else covered in your furry friend’s hair. It’s not going to stop your pet from shedding, but it’s easier than vacuuming everyday.
Clean the floors with fluffy socks
If you have hardwood or tile floors, one effective way to clean is to simply walk around the house. Put on some fuzzy socks and collect the dust, hair, and crumbs that inevitably end up on the ground.
The material is a magnet for dirt and it will take you no time at all to take a stroll around the house while cleaning the floors. It won’t even feel like cleaning!
Clean the washing machine
You might not think to clean the washing machine. After all, it is the one that does the washing. But you want to make sure the machine is clean so your clothes are as well.
Put bleach in the detergent drawer and run the machine without anything in it on a hot-water cycle. When it’s done running, open the door and let it dry. Now, your machine is clean and your clothes will be too!
